Clinical Trial Grants

The New Jersey Department of Treasury, in collaboration with the New Jersey Commission on Science and Technology, has awarded two grants of $250,000 each to the two researchers developing standard operating procedures for stem cell clinical trials. They are:

Rick Cohen, PhD

Debabrata Banerjee, PhD, associate professor of medicine and pharmacology at UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, to investigate umbilical cord blood-derived mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) in order to develop pre-clinical strategies for site-specific tumor targeting.

Ron Hart

Joseph R. Bertino, MD, university professor of medicine and pharmacology at UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, to investigate expanding umbilical cord blood (UCB) stem cells ex vivo that can then be used for transplantation into humans with advanced hematologic malignancies who do not have alternate donor choices.
