About Us
Dr.
Sunanda Gaur is a Professor of Pediatrics and Director of the
Robert Wood Johnson AIDS Program at UMDNJ/Robert Wood Johnson Medical
School in New Brunswick , one of the largest Pediatric HIV Programs in
New Jersey . She serves as the Chairman of the Advisory Committee
of the New Jersey Statewide Family Centered HIV Care Network, a Title
IV network of seven pediatric HIV care centers, working collaboratively
to enhance the standards of HIV care statewide and collectively providing
an active voice in statewide advocacy for HIV related issues.
Dr.
Naveen Mehrotra , Phi Beta Kappa and Magna Cum Laude, from SUNY
at Stony Brook, is a Board Certified Pediatrician. He completed a three
year residency in general pediatrics and a one year fellowship in Neonatology
at the University of Chicago, Wyler Children's Hospital. He is currently
in private practice in Central New Jersey and a volunteer faculty member
at UMDNJ/Robert Wood Johnson Medical School's Department of Pediatrics.
Dr. Robert Like , Director of the Center for Healthy
Families and Cultural Diversity at UMDNJ/Robert Wood Johnson University
Medical School, is a board certified Family Physician with a background
in medical anthropology. He is actively involved in funded research and
provides training and technical assistance related to the delivery of
patient - and family centered, culturally responsive care to diverse populations
by clinicians, health care organizations, and academic medical centers.
Dr.
Geetha Ghai is a consultant, actively participating in the community
by volunteering her time in various community organizations and helping
build small Bionutraceutical companies. She has been a scientific lecturer
for the Institute of Food Technology Scientific Lectureship Program on
the “Future of Nutraceuticals” and a pioneer in the field of nutraceuticals
with one of the first evidence demonstrating gene-phytonutrients interaction
and obtaining a use patent for disease indications. She has been recently
appointed to the New Jersey Office on Minority and Multicultural Health
Advisory Commission.
Dr.
Poonam Alaigh is an internist with a multifaceted professional
and healthcare career including clinical practice, hospital practice,
hospital administration, managed care, pharmaceutical medicine, health
care policy and community leadership. She currently is the National Medical
Director for Glaxo Smith Kline for the managed care market.
Upendra
J. Chivukula is a politician
who has served in the New
Jersey General
Assembly since 2002 as a representative of the 17th
legislative district . He is the first Asian Indian
American elected to the New Jersey General Assembly and the fourth
Indian American in the United States to be elected to state office. Mr.
Chivukula has been the Assembly's Deputy Speaker since 2007 and serves
as Chair of the Telecommunications and Utilities Committee and the Commerce
and Economic Development Committee.
Jigna
Rao is the Director of Drumthwacket, the Official Residence of
the Governor of New Jersey.
Ms. Rao was born in Mumbai , India where she was a long time advocate
of health issues for women and children. She worked with Child relief
and You – India (CRY), the National Association for the Blind and for
REWA, promoting women's health. Ms. Rao moved to New Jersey in 2000.
In 2006 she was diagnosed with Pelvic Tuberculosis while undergoing treatment
for infertility. Her inspiring story was featured by the Newark Star Ledger
in 2007. Since then she has been actively involved in raising awareness
about health care issues in the South Asian Community, particularly focusing
on women's health in New Jersey .
Ms. Rao has worked with the New Jersey Department of Health and Services
to help eliminate health disparities and serves on the Education
and Training Committee for RESOLVE, The National Association for Infertility.
