Undergraduate EducationOVERVIEW Undergraduate Pathology Education The Department of Pathology has a wide-ranging educational mission. In addition to training residents and fellows and conducting conferences for other clinicians, the Department ensures that the doctors and physician assistants trained at RWJMS are well-grounded in the discipline of pathology. First and second year medical students are taught pathology in small groups and lecture classes by our attending physicians, residents, and volunteer physicians under the direction of Dr. David Weissmann. Virtually all the attendings and all but the first-year residents participate in this instruction. In addition, physician assistant students are grounded in pathology by many of the same faculty under the direction of Dr. Gene Martin. Thus all our attending pathologists and our advancing residents have an opportunity and obligation to become pathology educators. David Weissmann, M.D.
