Core Facility Day Set for April 30:
Renovated Annex Offers Centralized Location for Piscataway Cores
RWJMS Core Facility Day will take place on April 30 in the West Lecture Hall in the Research Tower on the Piscataway campus. The program is a collaboration of the Dean’s Office, the Research Office, the Department of Communications and Public Affairs, and the Office of Information Technology. The event will showcase the RWJMS core facilities, which provide the medical school’s research and clinical community with specialized instrumentation, services, and methodology.
Peter Lobel, PhD, professor of pharmacology and member, Center for Advanced Biotechnology and Medicine, will present the keynote address: “Disease Discovery and Lysosomal Proteomics.” Throughout the day, representatives of 25 core facilities will speak, with presentations grouped by areas: proteomics, structural biology and chemistry; clinical trial support; molecular biology and gene expression; imaging; cells, tissues and animals; and research support. A poster session in the Great Hall will highlight the core facilities and individual research projects that have been further advanced with the support of the cores.
In conjunction with Core Facility Day, RWJMS will officially open the Research Annex Core Facility Building on the Piscataway campus. Tours of the building will take place throughout the day. In addition to housing a centralized administrative area for the cores, the Core Facility Building creates a scientific environment for classrooms, seminars, and programmatic collaborations. Its first occupants include the DNA Core Facility, MicroCT Core Facility, Confocal Imaging Core Facility, Stem Cell Core Facility, shRNA Core Facility, and an IT/Data Storage Center. |
