RWJMS is renowned for providing a strong academic foundation for its graduates, many of whom go on to become chief residents at their graduate medical education training programs. “RWJMS prepares graduates who are excellent team players and problem solvers,” says Dr. Rosenthal. “As medical students, some spend a year at the NIH, or do clinical research, or contribute to global health through service in other countries. Residency directors recognize the maturity and broad perspective our graduates bring to a program.”

RWJMS Rolls Out Phase I of Redesigned Web Site
RWJMS recently rolled out the first phase of a completely redesigned Web site. First to launch the site was The Cancer Institute of New Jersey (CINJ): www.cinj.org. The mission-centric Web site is tied to the four core missions of RWJMS: education, research, patient care, and community health. The site will serve as an improved source of information to the faculty, students, patients, staff, and the community at large. At the same time, it will promote the RWJMS brand, its institutes, centers, departments, and multispecialty faculty practice group.
The Web site redesign is driven by a multidisciplinary committee composed of members of the RWJMS community selected for leadership in their areas of influence. The project is spearheaded by Patrica M. Hansen, director, Communications and Public Affairs, and Alexander Izaguirre, PhD, director, Information Technology. “The committee members’ contributions have been invaluable,” says Ms. Hansen, noting that the first meeting was in January, and the CINJ site went “live” on March 28.
To many in the RWJMS community, the first indication of the Web site redesign came from a Web site evaluation tool, known as iSite, distributed by the committee. The survey sought the entire community’s suggestions on the new site. As part of iSite, the committee posted links to 25 Web sites — on-line models that participants could critique for both strengths and weaknesses, using the online survey.
The committee received more than 200 responses, which they ranked and matched with the needs and resources of the medical school, including available funds, programmers, and time. “If you try to do too much, the project becomes too expensive and takes too long,” says Dr. Izaguirre. The results determined which requests could be filled in the current phase of redesign and which would be incorporated into long range planning. Web site users will notice that it now offers excellent single-click navigation, links and shortcuts, and better aesthetics, including an increased number of higher quality photos.
The next phases of redesign will focus on the Robert Wood Johnson University Medical Group and the individual mission areas. Migration of the departments to the new templates is scheduled to occur throughout the fall, so that the entire RWJMS Web site will be using the new look and feel by January 1, 2009.
