Neurology Clerkship
The Neurology clerkship is a required 3 week clinical clerkship that is currently available throughout the academic year to third and fourth year medical students. Students are exposed to outpatients and inpatients and are expected to learn how to do a complete neurological exam, how to create a differential diagnosis in Neurology, how to locate disease in the central and peripheral nervous system, patient management of major neurological conditions, and will be introduced to the major neurological diseases and neurological complications of medical diseases.
Students must take the shelf exam given on the last day of the clerkship. Lectures listed below are given at variable times during the three weeks and are listed below. A write-up of at least one patient must be handed in before the final examination. Grades are based on clinical performance, the write-up and the shelf exam. The shelf exam is worth 50% of the final grade. Students must pass the shelf exam in order to pass the course. A hard copy of the write-up must be handed in no later than at the time of examination for a student to receive a grade higher than Pass.
The Robert Wood Johnson Medical School provides one clerkship at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Brunswick and two clerkships at Jersey Shore Hospital. The New Brunswick clerkship is directed by Dr. Jacob Sage and the Jersey Shore clerkships are headed by Dr. Alan Collichio and Dr. Richard Rhee, respectively.
