Application process

When completing the AMCAS application, add the Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School (RWJMS) MD/PhD program to your list of programs. After submitting the application, you will be contacted by RWJMS to submit a brief secondary application and application fee ($80), which must be submitted no later than December 1. Although Dec. 1 is the final deadline, we encourage students to apply as early as possible. If you are selected for an interview, you will be notified of the scheduled date for you to complete the medical school interview and MD/PhD interviews (see interview details below).

Program statistics

  • Applicant profiles: Typically each year we interview ~36 students, with 12 being accepted and 6 matriculating. In recent years the average MCAT score is 33, average GPA is 3.7 and the students have ~5 years of research experience.
  • Rotations: Most students perform 2 to 3 rotations. The first rotation is often scheduled for the summer before M1 and the others between M1 and M2. Most students do at least one rotation at Princeton University and one at Rutgers University.
  • Selected institutions: Roughly one-third (36%) of our students perform their thesis research at Princeton University. For more information on labs and mentors selected by our students, see the student directory.
  • Funding and residency placement: Half of our students have received pre-doctoral fellowships from federal, state and private agencies. Historically our students have done very well in the residency match, with many attending prestigious residency programs (see match list 2012)
