About the RWJMS Retired Faculty AssociationThe RWJMS RFA was organized in 2008 through the efforts of retired and non-retired RWJMS faculty, notably, Drs. Paul Manowitz and Barbara Brodsky, with the support of Dean Amenta and COO Alice Lustig. The RWJMS RFA is envisioned as a forum and resource for faculty who are retired or nearing retirement. The goals of the organization are to foster ongoing engagement and participation of retired faculty in RWJMS activities, to promote continuing interaction with colleagues and to advocate for benefits which facilitate retired faculty involvement in academic activites. While the retirement process is a unique experience for each individual retiree, the RFA will provide a useful resource and learning opportunity through the experiences of others. We believe that an active RFA will provide benefits both for RWJMS and the RFA members.Since its inception, interested faculty have met regularly resulting in development and approval of the RWJMS RFA bylaws and election of officers. In addition, these meetings provided opportunities for fellow faculty to socialize and to attend informative presentations. A newsletter has been sent to all retired faculty as well as interested active faculty by email and hard copy on a regular basis since 2008.This website is being developed to provide a dynamic overview of the association’s activities and to make available links to pertinent information sources on benefits and retiree associations at other educational institutions. Suggestions for improvements of website content and presentation are always welcome.Although the RWJMS RFA has enjoyed considerable progress in the past year, much remains to be accomplished and we look forward to a busy and productive year ahead. High on our list of priorities is electing a strong Program Committee to develop presentations and panel discussions of interest to faculty which will raise issues of importance and facilitate interaction with RWJMS, its faculty, staff and students. We encourage all retired, near-retired and active faculty to become actively involved in the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School Retired Faculty Association.Members of the RWJMS RFA extend Special Thanks to Dean Peter Amenta for his ongoing support of the association and to Ms. Alice Lustig and Ms. Ruthe Geardino for their help and guidance. In addition, Ms. Patricia Hansen and Ms. Marie Kleeman have given invaluable assistance to the organization of the RFA.Robert Shelden, PhD President, RFA
