Our Program

Greetings and welcome to the Emergency Medicine (EM) Residency Program at UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School – New Brunswick website. The Robert Wood Johnson Medical School Emergency Medicine Residency Program is dedicated to providing the ideal environment for residents to become compassionate emergency medicine physicians who will confidently provide evidence based, cost effective care to every patient they treat.

Our PGY-1 to PGY-3 program has the residents rotating through Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, a Level 1 Trauma Center and a leader in the provision of Emergency Care to the residents of central New Jersey. RWJUH is the only academic medical center and provider of tertiary and quaternary healthcare services in central New Jersey. Immediately adjacent to RWJUH is the Bristol-Myers Squibb Children’s Hospital, providing state-of-the-art care to the pediatric patients of central New Jersey.

Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital is located in central New Jersey which is a short drive or train ride from New York City and Philadelphia. Located in New Brunswick, New Jersey this area is ideal for entertaining friends or to raise a family as it offers an energetic and diverse academic, cultural, ethnic, entertainment and recreational lifestyle. New Brunswick offers a wide variety of restaurants that will cater to every palate and background: American, Korean, Caribbean, Indian, Ethiopian, Middle-Eastern, Tex-Mex, Soul, or Creole, we have it all. New Brunwick also features superb professional theater. Top-caliber orchestras, musicians, and dancers from around the world perform here regularly. With performances for all ages such as Wanda Sykes, Lewis Black, and Yo Gabba Gabba! Live! It’s Time to Dance! everyone will have a great time. Lastly New Brunswick is only a short distance from our many sports arenas, and our 130 miles of coastline. There is something here for everyone to enjoy!!!

Prospective Applicants:

APPLICATIONS FOR THE 2012-2013 SEASON HAS ENDED.

Please apply for the 2013-2014 season beginning in September 2012.

Applicants are invited to apply to the RWJMS - Emergency Medicine Residency Program through the Electronic Residency Application Services (ERAS) We only accept applications through the ERAS. NO PAPER APPLICATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED.

Please contact the Student Affairs office at your institution or the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) for more details regarding the ERAS program.

A complete application includes the following: ERAS Common Application, personal statement, medical school transcript, Dean's letter, 3 letters of recommendation 2 of which should be from an Emergency Medicine faculty member, ECFMG Status Report (if applicable) and USMLE/COMLEX Step 1 and prefer Step 2. US clinical experience is not required.
