Medical Education Resources
Kessler Teaching Laboratories
The newly renovated Kessler
Teaching Laboratories provides an integrated educational resource
for first and second year medical students. This includes a state-of-the-art
Anatomy dissection lab with a mobile viewing station, 26 fully equipped
small group teaching rooms, and three lecture halls. Wireless Internet
access is available throughout. Also located in the Kessler Teaching
Laboratories is an educational computer lab equipped to provide
access to computer-assisted self instruction, e-mail, the Internet,
word processing and bibliographic data bases.
The Clinical Skills Center
and Standardized Patient Programs
The Clinical Skills Center
and Standardized Patient Programs located in the Kessler Teaching
Laboratories, directed by Carol A. Terregino, M.D., plays a significant
role in our teaching and assessment of physical diagnosis, history
taking and clinical communication skills. Dr. Terregino works closely
with course and clerkship directors to develop exercises to train
and assess these skills. Training will include developing skills
in establishing a therapeutic relationship with patients, integrating
information, providing culturally sensitive care, and educating
patients regarding healthy lifestyles. Judi
Marraccini, the Clinical Coordinator, will recruit and train
standardized patients, and
develop clinical cases and assessment criteria.
The Media Library
The
Media Library offers curriculum support in the basic sciences for
students, faculty and staff through its electronic and print collections.
This facility allows students to reinforce the knowledge and skills
acquired in the lecture hall, laboratories and small group sessions
in a comfortable environment conducive to learning, near necessary
information resources and library specialists who can provide additional
support.
Wireless
access is available, and wired library workstations provide a gateway
to electronic journals and books. Library websites and the online
catalog can be searched on site and remotely. The director of the
library, Zana Etter, provides database searching classes as well
as offering ad hoc assistance in the library.
The
Media Library edits and posts audio lectures to the RWJMS course
webpage, and archives lectures from previous years. During the school
year we are open 7 days a week including evenings and weekends.
We are located on the 2 nd floor of the Kessler Teaching Laboratories
wing, along the East Corridor, in Room N-207.
The Library of Science and Medicine
The Library of Science and Medicine, operated by Rutgers University,
is conveniently located in a building next to the Kessler Teaching
Laboratories. The collections in both print and non-print formats
span a broad range of fields in the sciences. An online catalogue
is available on the Rutgers University Libraries home page. Specialized
branch libraries for chemistry, physics, the mathematical sciences,
and alcohol studies are also available a short walk across campus.
The Cognitive
Skills Program
The Cognitive Skills Program offers
academic support to students in all four years of medical school.
The philosophy of the program encourages all students to seek services
to improve both the effectiveness and efficiency of study. Support
is also offered to students preparing for the licensure exam (USMLE).
Student Health and Student Wellness
Student Health and Student Wellness
services are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
