Thanks for your interest in our program!  We are pleased to introduce you to our Family Medicine Residency Training Program.

The Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School 's Family Medicine Residency Program at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital is New Jersey 's only urban, University hospital-based Family Medicine program.  Our program started in 1980 and we have trained over 200 family medicine doctors who practice in New Jersey and nationwide.

We are located in New Brunswick, NJ, the home of Rutgers University and a vibrant university town.  New Brunswick is nicknamed “the healthcare city” as it is the home to two major hospitals and several internationally known pharmaceutical giants.   Located in central New Jersey with excellent public and personal transportation connectivity, the “Hub City” is an easy 30-60 minute ride to major airports as well as New York City, Philadelphia, the Jersey Shore and multiple recreation areas.

Our program is a 5-5-5 academic focused, fellowship linked, community-oriented Family Medicine Residency.  We train future leaders in clinical care, community outreach, education and primary care practice-based research.

Our Program Offers You:

ACADEMICS:  University Based:  Cutting edge training in Family Medicine with access to all the major subspecialties through Rutgers RWJ Medical School faculty, fellows, residents and students.

HOSPITAL:  Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital:  Ranked as one of the top hospitals in the country by US News & World Reports and the Leapfrog group.

OUTPATIENT TRAINING:  Family Medicine at Monument Square:  Training for the 21st century medical practice, in a state of the art Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH)

COMMUNITY:  New Brunswick and its surrounding suburbs offer a truly diverse patient population:  underserved, well-insured, culturally and ethnically diverse, great diversity in education/health literacy, all ages.

RESEARCH:  Opportunities to work and learn with the Department’s nationally recognized program in primary care and health services research.
