Cardiovascular
disease is the primary cause of over 30 percent of deaths and a
contributing cause of many more in New Jersey.
Cardiovascular
disease, including high blood pressure, coronary heart disease,
congestive heart failure and stroke, was the number one cause of
death in the United States throughout the entire 20 th Century -
and retains this dubious distinction now into the 21 st Century.
Each day nearly 2,600 Americans die of cardiovascular disease. More
than one in five Americans has some form of heart disease.
As
the "baby boomers" mature and the population ages, the incidence
of cardiovascular disease will likely increase to levels that will
adversely impact society's ability to finance the health care of
its citizens. Compounding this trend is the rapidly increasing incidence
of obesity and diabetes in the U.S., especially among the young,
raising concerns among public health experts that historical gains
in life expectancy could be reversed as these conditions adversely
impact cardiovascular health.
Centrally
located in New Brunswick, The Cardiovascular Institute of New Jersey
is fast becoming a truly world-class cardiovascular program offering
comprehensive, state-of-the-art heart disease prevention and treatment
services for the residents of New Jersey.
