Office of Multicultural Affairs
The Office of Multicultural Affairs (OMA) was established in 1996. The mission and goals is to assist University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ)-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School (RWJMS) in preparing students to become competent, compassionate, culturally aware and sensitive physicians to practice in our increasingly diverse society. OMA sponsors and supports educational and cultural programs that address the issue of race, gender, religion, ethnicity, and culture, that enhance awareness and sensitivity to promote culturally competent health care as well as respect for all human beings. Some of the programs in the past year have included Distinguished Lecture Series on Cultural Competence, Minority Health Month, Disability Awareness Month, Kwanzaa, Chanukah, Ramadan, as well as Asian, African American, and Latin Heritage Months celebrations.
The Office of Multicultural Affairs sponsors many programs that highlight cultural diversity and promote cultural competence. The mission of the Office of Multicultural Affairs is to assist the school in preparing students to become caring, compassionate, and culturally sensitive physicians in our ethnically and culturally diverse society. Students, residents, faculty, and administrators and staff are encouraged to participate in cultural programs such as Latin Heritage Month, AIDS Awareness Day, Minority Health Month, National Disabilities Awareness Month, Asian Heritage Month, Women's Health Month, and Multicultural Awareness Month.
