Seminar on Developmental Disabilities and Family Centered Care
The Boggs Center, the Statewide Parent Advocacy Network (New Jerseys federally funded parent training and information center), and the Department of Pediatrics at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School collaborate to present a seminar on developmental disabilities to third year medical students. The seminar is a required component of the pediatric rotation at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and is presented six times each year.
The seminar is designed to provide an introduction to developmental disabilities and the principles of family-centered care as well as to increase awareness of and sensitivity to the strengths and needs of families which include a child with a developmental disability. The seminar combines didactic instruction, student presentations, and group discussion with visits to families in their homes.
