Community Supports
New Jersey Training Network
The New Jersey Training Network is a network of trainers who lead preservice training for new direct care staff in agencies serving people with developmental disabilities. Originally begun as a Boggs Center Training Initiative Project, the network has continued for 18 years, supported by the NJ Division of Developmental Disabilities. Trainers from any agency serving people with disabilities in New Jersey can attend meetings and be on the mailing list and email listserv for the Training Network.
The Boggs Center facilitates quarterly meetings and activities of this network, and provides technical assistance to trainers on training skills, resources, and management. Our work with the network also includes revisions and updates to the Preservice Training Modules of the Community Core Curriculum.
The Boggs Center also maintains linkages between innovative national efforts such as the National Alliance for Direct Support Professionals and the Human Service Skills Standards Project and issues and needs in New Jersey.
If you are interested in joining the mailing list and listserv, send your name, address, and email to Elizabeth Ong at elizabeth.ong@umdnj.edu. For more information, contact Bill Gaventa at bill.gaventa@umdnj.edu.There are two listservs: one only for trainers whose agencies have been authorized to do pre-service training, and the second for any and all staff with training responsibilities in agencies serving people with developmental disabilities.
