This presentation will include an overview of trauma and its effects on the lives of people with intellectual disabilities, with a focus on symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Trauma can often manifest as behavioral issues or the symptoms of other mental health disorders. Understanding the unique diagnostic considerations of individuals with ID is essential to recovery. Mechanisms for healing and the positive strategies that can be used to support ongoing growth and psychological well-being will be explored.
