Search Update

April, 2008

The RWJMS Dean Search Committee conducted a first round of interviews with 8 highly qualified candidates. (One candidate originally selected for interview withdrew.) The Committee reviewed the interview findings and decided that 5 candidates will visit the RWJMS campuses in May to meet with faculty, students and administrators.

March, 2008

The RWJMS Dean Search Committee met on March 12 and March 26, 2008. At the meeting on March 12, the Committee reviewed and achieved consensus regarding the ideal candidate for the Dean position, including qualifications and key attributes. At the March 26 meeting, the Committee reviewed and discussed the qualifications of 26 applicants for the position, and chose 10 individuals to be interviewed in April.

February, 2008

The RWJMS Dean Search Committee met on February 13, 2008. At the meeting, Dr. William Owen, University President, conveyed his charge to the Committee and responded to questions about the search process. Search firm consultants introduced themselves and described the results of meetings with School constituencies to characterize the ideal candidate for the deanship. The next Search Committee meeting is scheduled for March 12, 2008.

January, 2008

In advance of the first meeting of the Search Committee scheduled for February 13, 2008, the executive search firm, Korn/Ferry, will be meeting with representatives of major faculty committees, department chairs, directors of major centers and institutes, the Dean's leadership team, and representatives of outside constituencies such as hospitals and community groups.

The objective of these meetings is to characterize the ideal candidate for the deanship, and to broaden participation in the search process.

November - December, 2007

The members of the Search Committee were appointed by President Owen.

Advertisements for the position of Dean of RWJMS appeared in a wide variety of on-line and hard copy printed publications.

The first meeting of the Search Committee is scheduled for February, 2008.

October, 2007

A slate of nominees for Search Committee members is being assembled, to be submitted to Dr. Owen. Under RWJMS Bylaws, the majority of the Committee must be chosen from among elected members of the faculty. Dr. Owen will appoint other members to the Committee representing different stakeholder groups who may or may not be members of the RWJMS faculty.

One of the first tasks for the Committee, once constituted and charged by Dr. Owen, will be to define the qualities in an ideal candidate for the Deanship.
