Take charge of stress before it takes the charge out of you! The vast majority of health problems, as well as time lost from work are stress-related. When stress is reduced - health, creativity, productivity, mental outlook, and even relationships improve. Receive an overview of the stress cycle, a logical framework for understanding stress. Learn major strategies for derailing stress at crucial points: the Source, the Mental Trigger, the Physiological Reaction, and the Effect.
NOTE: 1.0 contact hours will be provided. The Continuing Education Committee is an approved provider of continuing education in nursing by the New Jersey State Nursing Association, Provider Number P160-1/2004-2007. Item Writing Workshop
REGISTRATION Closed – Limited to 25 participants
The National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME) will offer a 3 hour workshop to help faculty members improve the quality of multiple-choice questions written for their examinations. Through informative presentations and discussions, faculty members are able to explore structural issues relating to constructing quality multiple-choice items for testing of basic science content. The session also provides an opportunity for the participants to discuss general guidelines and basic rules for item construction for the basic sciences.
Each participant is provided with a printed copy of the manual “Constructing Written Test Questions for the Basic and Clinical Sciences, which is published by the National Board of Medical Examiners. The manual includes the material that is presented during the session and additional templates that can be used to assist item writers develop items for the basic and clinical sciences.

The Peer Review Process
Your application has been completed and submitted to the sponsor. Next your proposal will undergo "peer review," where a panel of experts in your field will sift through all the proposals and select the most meritorious for funding. Or that's the idea anyway. A close look at the peer review process may reveal a more complicated picture.
This workshop will give junior faculty and other beginning investigators an insider's view of the peer review process and some tips on how to make their applications more competitive. Find out what happens when your proposal is being reviewed and what will be expected of you when you serve as a peer reviewer.

Grants.gov Workshop
The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs will host a series of workshops on how to submit an application to NIH (and other federal sponsors) through Grants.gov, the new web-based portal for the electronic submission of grant applications. Electronic submission of all research grant applications will be mandatory beginning February 1, 2007 and some mechanisms--the R03 (Small grants) and R21 (Exploratory/Development) will require electronic submission beginning with the June 1 deadline.
Workshops will be held as indicated below. REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED so that we can prepare an appropriate number of handouts. Statistical Analysis Workshop
The STATISTICA workshop includes an overview of the program including setup and analysis of data. STATISTICA provides a comprehensive array of data analysis, data management, data visualization, and data mining procedures.
